Not always comfortable but a 4-1 win nonetheless

South Manchester have had some trouble starting off their games with vigour recently and this encounter was no different. The Bees expected a quick tempo as Stockport were a young team and the pitch had recently been relaid. However, to the Bees surprise, the home team played the ball around and held possession, playing a very mature style of hockey.

No real chances were created but with just ten minutes gone, the ball ricocheted up into the air from Tom Ainsleys stick before the attacker jumped and swiped it out of the air and into the goal in front of Sean Stewart. Clearly, this should have been disallowed and even despite the second umpire explaining that it should be disallowed, the young home umpire decided to give his team the goal.

The Bees finally came out of their shell and began to open up some chances. With 20 minutes played, the equaliser came, Richard Greenhough finishing from a Simon Lamb pass. 1-1 at half time.

The Bees completely dominated the second half with Stockport not registering a shot on goal. Greenhough added a second with a slightly fortunate shot whilst Afonja added one and then Greenhough completed his hat-trick. It could've been a lot more with Sean Smith and non-relation Mark Smith both creating good chances.

4-1 but it could've been a lot more.
