5 goal margin makes up for loss earlier in the season

After a disappointing performance last weekend, the Bees wanted to set the record straight and did not fail as they produced a very good display.

The chances started just a few seconds in as Antony Rigby found space but couldn't direct the shot goalwards. Knutsford were clearly an able team and passed the ball well, looking for any opportunity to exploit. But it was the Bees who went ahead as a short corner was stopped by Gareth Hampton who played it back to injector Simeon Afonje who made no mistake sweeping home.

The away team pushed on and nearly equalised when Sean Stewart just lost sight of his man but Colasurdo toe-poked it away. Alan Leonard controlled the right hand side well and it was his pass that started the play to Mark Ives along the wing. Possession was briefly lost but Simon Lamb robbed the ball back, fed Richard Greenhough and the Yorkshireman hit a bullet which clipped the post and went in; a fantastic finish which left the keeper no chance.

Centre Backs Patrick Souter and Stewart held strong whilst Ed Holmes and Michael Blackwood were instrumental in their defensive duties, keeping the chances to a minimum. The only time the Cheshire outfit got a clean shot was on a short corner, which was saved by the Bees keeper Colasurdo.

Knutsford came out the second half with more intent and put South Manchester under considerable pressure. Colasurdo made a strong of saves but his clean sheet was denied when a goal scramble ended with the away team tapping it in.

2-1 and you could cut the tension with a knife. The Bees held strong and when Lamb and Hampton combined on the counter attack which led to Greenhough burying his second, it allowed the home team to settle. With no pressure, the Bees played the ball with style, passing and tackling with the ability that should be on show all season. Antony Rigby created the fourth, with a good run from the right, he found Hampton in the D to finish it well. The away keeper was unlucky for the fifth as a mis-kick fell on Greenhoughs stick and he made no mistake. The sixth was a well taken short corner, hit well from the top of the D by Greenhough who finished the game with an impressive four goals.

Colasurdo was awarded man of the match although nominations were from all over the team. DoD went to Dicky yet again for not showering. Smelly Dicky.

Weekend off next week due to Crewe withdrawing before a trip to Sale where the Bees will try to pull off an upset.
