Another sunny Autumn afternoon found the Bees facing off against another completely unknown team from a higher league.

Another sunny Autumn afternoon found the Bees facing off against another completely unknown team from a higher league. However, the intrepid workers went about their business in style, with Captain Gaz Hampton eager to catch his Golden-Sticked nemesis Richard Greenhough in the goal scoring stakes.

Almost straight from the off summer signing Simon Lamb continued to demonstrate his silky mastery of the Indian dribble, drawing stick challenge after stick challenge as he weaved his magical way into the D time and again. Wingers Mark Yves and Ant Rigby fought valiantly with their own feet for possession of the ball and sometimes won. Midfielders Mike Blackwood and Matt Bottomley terrified the opposition into quiet and murmuring submission as they chained them to their dungeon wall of jab tackles and general irritation.

Meanwhile the stalwart defence of Alan Leonard, Mark Scholes, Sean Stewart, Eddy Holmes and Simeon Afonja kept things tight at the back, and Simeon did his best to up his goal tally for the season too. On occasion the silken mane of Pete Lynch-Mathew was also seen as he appeared in a flash of pain-yielding glory providing save after wondrous save throughout the game.

Frankly the game was enjoyable enough, with highs and lows which I can't clearly re-call right now and I'm not about to just make stuff up about the build-up play that led to each goal. Here are some of my highlights:

Gaz scoring the first goal, without it hitting the backboard.
Going in at halftime 4-0 up.
Watching Ant Rigby getting beaten up by an old-man.
An even older man finding something offensive, and then shouting it loudly four times to prove just how offensive it was.
The self-same old man leaving his leg out twice to try and catch the player who went around him, on the second occasion actually up-ending Simon Lamb.
Being offered to be "knocked out" by the lout who was "warned" on three separate occasions by the South Cheshire umpire about his conduct without the production or discussion of a card.
Watching said lout shouting "come here and say that" without the production or discussion of a card by the South Cheshire umpire.
Ant Rigby getting the card he deserves for his lack of sprinting.
Winning 6-4, with a hat-trick from me?
Discovering that the lout actually plays for the South Cheshire 1st Team.
