Record crowd for the season sees thrilling 8-0 victory

The Bees returned to Trinity for this first official home game of the season to face an Urmston side they had dispatched 14-0 in a friendly just weeks before. A brief deluge before the game could not dampen the spirits of the South Manchester men as they were cheered on by a near record crowd.

With Captain Hampton out for the foreseeable the Bees rallied round to provide another victory for their recovering talisman. With the sun threatening to shine the Bees started and although not scoring with the ruthless efficiency of their previous game they soon exerted their dominance on a young Urmston side. Their pressure finally led to an early goal as Holmes postioned himself in space at the top of the D and received a pass from Rigby and calmly slotted the ball between the keepers legs for the first goal. Rigby would be provider yet again for the second which was a floating lift from Lamb at top D. Lamb seemed delighted with this goal which is currently leading the goal of the season (worst) voting.

The Bees did not slip into complacency even though they took an early lead and the defence pushed up with darting runs from Ainsley, Leonard and Scholes constantly providing another outlet for the creative attacking force of South Manchester. Critten, Stewart and Souter were allowed a quiet game with the opposition rarely threatening to push into their half let alone the D. Lynch-Mathew managed to complete another clean sheet of sorts by not touching the ball all game yet unleashed barks of commands at his defensive charges throughout which no doubt aided the resolute protection of the Bees net.

With the team committed to attacking and Smith harrying the byline it was no surprise that the Bees suddenly had a wealth of short corners. It was from one of these corners that Smith provided the ball onto the post for Holmes to deftly turn and slot past the stranded defender for his second goal of the day.

Bally who had constantly been harassing the experienced Urmston defence would find himself on the scoresheet. Greenhough who unusually couldn't find the back of the net received the ball and held it up before releasing the nimble Bally who slotted home from Top D.

The second half started with renewed attacking effort from Urmston and some strange umpiring calls allowed them to settle and provide a stronger challenge but this was soon ended as Lamb would score his second from Smith's second assist. This one a more conventional goal from the central midfielder.

Greenhough would find Rigby at the post for the tricky wingers first goal and the strikers second assist lending another level of symmetry to the sides performance. Rigby would then find the net again to become the third Bees player to score twice in the same game after receiving the ball from the in form Bally, who narrowly missed out on a providing Holmes with a hat-trick after Greenhough deflected the midfielder's shot wide. Greenhough would be cursed to by Rigby who twice had goal bound shots deflected by the striker as he searched in vain for his first goal.

Arguably the best goal of the day was saved for last as an incisive passing display led to Bally slipping the ball deftly to Holmes top D who then spread it wide after a deflection off a foot found itself at the stick of Tharaken who had been unlucky early to be denied by the keeper. This time however he took the ball wide and from the tightest of angles slammed a thundering shot into the backboard and the hearts of the dejected Urmston defence.

Final score 8-0 with the midfield providing all of the teams goals. A good win but with lots to improve on, the Bees look to capitalise on a run of games at home before the cold weather sees out the year.
