The Bees knew that a result against a team 4 divisions above them was unlikely to be positive and used this game as experience and a good physical run-out.
South Manchester started well and despite conceding early, positioning was excellent and Pete Lynch-Mathew in the Bees goal stood on his head making saves. It was a busy day for centre backs Ashley Critten and Mark Scholes whilst Matthew Bottomley was in an usual right back position.
The Bees actually got the game to 1-1 after some nice work in the middle of the park ended with a lovely pass from Simon Lamb to stand in King who rifled it into the net from the right.
As expected, Rochdale dominated but the Bees kept it competitive and the the home team played well, playing it around the pitch with confidence and ease, something the Bees can learn from.
Next week, the Bees face a team only 1 division above before the start of the league the week after.
